More than ever before, we are aware of the environmental damage caused by single-use plastics and ecologically harmful products. That’s why product designers and manufacturers everywhere must innovate to reduce plastic pollution. This often means replacing traditional plastics with something new. At Quantum Product Design, we see this challenge as a great opportunity for brands and manufacturers.
Choosing ecologically-friendly materials doesn’t have to mean compromising on form or function. In fact, with the right approach, eco alternatives can result in a product that’s better, more affordable and ultimately more successful. We’re investing heavily in research, creating opportunities for our customers to use eco alternatives when developing new products. Here’s just a sample of the materials we can use: ⦁ Bamboo fibres – sourced from one of the world’s most sustainable crops, bamboo fibre is soft yet durable, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial making it a popular alternative to cotton ⦁ Liquid wood – looks, feels and acts like a plastic but is biodegradable ⦁ PHA polyesters – a man-made biodegradable plastic ⦁ PLA polyesters – a polyester made from lactic acid, wheat or sugarcane, with the ability to decompose within 47 days in an industrial composting site ⦁ Cork – completely natural and easily recyclable, cork is durable with waterproof qualities and an attractive texture, making it an ideal alternative to leather.
